First Lines Friday, Friday 56 and Book Blogger Hop ~ 3 July 2020

First Lines Friday

Today’s FIRST LINES are from Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz.

ONE SUMMER NIGHT I FELL ASLEEP, HOPING THE WORLD would be different when I woke. In the morning, when I opened my eyes, the world was the same. I threw off the sheets and lay there as the heat poured in through my open window

My FRIDAY 56 is from page no. 56 of Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo.

She knew what Bajan was doing, trying to make her think of home. But she was so hungry and the memory was so strong that her stomach growled anyway. She could see her mother damping the fire, see her flipping the bread with quick pinches of her fingers, smell the dough cooking over the ashes.

What book/books got a lot of hype but were a disappointment for you? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

There are a few of them, but most recently, Little Fires Everywhere was a big disappointment for me. I found the concept very simplistic and characters very black and white. I know a lot of people loved this book, but it simply wasn’t my cup of tea.

  1. I have been wanting to read Aristotle and Dante Discover the secrets of the Universe and Crooked Kingdom. I hope you are enjoying them!

I haven’t read Little Fires Everywhere yet (or seen the show), but I have heard and seen the praise and hype surrounding it. It definitely interests me. No book is loved by everyone though, and I appreciate hearing the negative as well as a the positive. It keeps my expectations more realistic.

I hope you have a great weekend. Stay safe and well.
